Provides general counseling in academic and vocational studies. Provides individual couseling in self-esteem, problem solving, relationships, and other related issues. Assists the inmate to secure direct communication with substance abuse, educational, employment and/or other community social resources that can assist in successful reintegration into society.
Primary Duties and Responsibilities
Provides general classroom guidance in the areas of career planning, social adjustment, personal management, and general life/skills knowledge.
Communicates with inmates and detainees regarding the reality of their pre-release activities and plans, defining terminology and identifying community resources.
Conducts a periodic review of curriculum and resources available to enhance inmates and detainees participation in pre-release/life skills programs and activities.
May maintain class rosters, attendance records, and provides certificates for pre-release life skills program.
Establishes and maintains contact and communication with other professionals, programs and organizations regarding topical pre-release/life skills issues.
Participates in formulation and development of release plan.
Aids the inmate in planning and developing an individual post-release plan and encourages them to assume the responsibility for post-release behaviors and activities.
Advises offenders on personal problems, employment resources, vocational skills, educational and training needs, family problems and institutional adjustment.
Delivers programs to offenders which are designed to assist in successful re-entry into the community following release from incarceration.
Develops, monitors, and amends offender transition plans in line with re-entry programs and services.
Performs other duties as assigned.
Bachelor's degree including at least twenty-four (24) hours in any combination of psychology, sociology, social work, criminology, education, criminal justice administration, penology or police science; or Bachelor's degree and one (1) year of experience in a correctional facility in a position which requires direct and routine contact with inmates; or an equivalent combination of education and experience, substituting one (1) year of experience in a correctional facility in a position which requires direct contact with inmates for each thirty semester hours of the required education.
Required at this level include knowledge of vocational guidance and social adjustment principals; of available institutional industrial positions and the future market for those skills; of interviewing and counseling techniques; and of social and psychological problems facing offenders. Ability is required to establish and maintain effective working relationships with others.

The check will bounce and the victim is left responsible.
